Travel Day, A New Time Zone & Cabelas

Last night we stayed in Bozeman, MT and were able to take care of all our maintenance chores. There was a laundry room at the hotel so we caught up on that, there was a Super Walmart next door so we could stock up on groceries, and there was a Jiffy Lube so we got the oil changed on the car. Today was a travel day, and after breakfast we got on I-90 and drove all the way through Montana. What a beautiful state! As we drove along we passed through populated areas that thinned out into ranches with horses and cattle that gave way to sections of hills dotted with pine trees that became huge, rocky hills. And, no matter where you turn, there are always mountains looming in the distance.

We stopped for lunch at a rest area and this van pulled into the parking lot. I couldn't resist taking a picture! It turned out to be three guys from Ontario who are golfing their way around Canada & the US filming a possible TV show. You just never know what you'll run into out here!

As we got closer to the Idaho border it became obvious that we were coming down out of the mountains. The densely forested hills were getting higher and higher all around us. It looked so much like northern Maine, right down to the smell of the pine trees. At 2:00 we crossed the Idaho border and another time zone. We're now on Pacific Time! Very weird to be 3 hours behind home! We drove through Lookout Pass, at an elevation of 4,725 ft, and what a road! There were huge signs warning truckers to test their brakes and we could see why! What a steep, windy road it was, with 3 runaway truck lanes. Wow! Within about an hour we were at our hotel in Post Falls, just on the border of Idaho and Washington.
We ended the day with a visit to Rick's Mecca...Cabela's. He had a great time looking around, of course! Tomorrow we'll be getting an early start and should be in Seattle by the afternoon. Finally, the West Coast!

Just to recap our first week or so: 12 states, 3,300 miles, 3 time zones, and 9 days of constant amazement!
