Halfway Between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans!

We had a good day today and slowed things down a bit. We only drove 347 miles but it took us all day to do it. Shortly after breakfast we were in South Dakota, the halfway point between both coasts! We decided to get off I-90 for a change of pace. The landscape didn't change...more straight roads with flat land on both sides as far as the horizon. We were definitely in the Plains. Gives flat a whole new meaning! At least we got to see some of the small towns along the way since we were off the interstate. After eating lunch in a cute little park we went to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Homestead. It was a nice way to spend an hour or so out of the car, and we even went for a walk on a trail through the prairie.
It was pretty breezy, and the sound of the wind through the grass and corn plants was amazing. Next up was Mitchell and a visit to the strangest building ever...The Corn Palace. It's a huge building completely covered in corn and grain with intricate murals that are changed every year. Inside is a large gym with a stage where sporting events and concerts are held. Bizarre, but a great place for a pit stop.
Then it was back on the highway, across the Missouri River and we arrived at our hotel at about 6:00. Tomorrow we'll be out of the plains and into the Black Hills and our first National Park - Badlands.
